Job Description:

Life Cycle Assessment Specialist, People & Culture – Europe

Department

The Corporate Safety and Environment department is part of the People and Culture Business Unit. We develop the corporate sustainability strategy, implement and coordinate cross-organizational improvement projects and provide support within the Health, Safety and Environmental area to the Vestas organization.

Responsibilities and Tasks

As an experienced Life Cycle Assessment Specialist, your responsibility will be to  take the lead on the journey of achieving Vesta’s objectives of becoming “As Green As It Gets” within the LCA area. You will be the corporate specialist and advisor within the LCA area and with your enthusiastic attitude you will participate to the ongoing development and implementation of LCA initiatives. You will be working closely together with the sustainability reporting unit, as well as climate and environmental specialists.

Your main responsibilities will be to develop, implement and continuously follow up on global/ corporate/strategic LCA initiatives and projects, both regarding products and in general corporate matters.

Furthermore your responsibilities will be to:

  • Develop and take the lead on implementing Vestas’ Life Cycle Assessment approach.
  • Perform LCA on new and future wind turbines
  • Continuously develop and improve the LCA assessments and methods
  • Follow up and communicate specific activities concerning life cycle perspectives.
  • Develop and ensure strong follow-up on LCA aspects and targets

Qualifications and Work Experience

  • At minimum, a university degree in Natural Science, Technology, Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science,
  • High level of experience (5+ years) in Life Cycle Assessment/Cradle to Cradle/consulting for production and/or service companies
  • Good project management skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong cooperation and communication skills
  • Cultural understanding / international experience
  • Fluent in English

LCA Analyst

UL Environment, Northbrook, IL, USA

Designs, develops, executes and implements environmental research utilizing Life Cycle Assessment methodologies in a wide range of industries. This position will provide the necessary project support, research and data to inform standards development and will assist in the assessment of product certification when expertise is needed.

The major responsibilities of this role include:

  • Performs Life Cycle Assessments on a wide range of products and in a wide range of industries.
  • Research existing LCA reports and data to provide a deeper understand of relevant environmental issues for decision making and standards informing.
  • Collaborate with Industries and Associations to gather necessary knowledge and data to utilize in assessments.
  • Develop and maintain scientific knowledge of current and new technologies related to products for which Life Cycle Assessments have been or will be performed.
  • Develop and maintain extensive knowledge in Life Cycle Assessment best practices for software, methods and communication by reading journals and scientific publications, attending academic conferences, and delivering presentations on relevant topics in the field.
  • Participate in industry standard technical committees and/or provide support to standard technical panels.
  • Draft technical criteria for standards development utilizing knowledge gained from Life Cycle Assessments.
  • Collaborate with external consultants on model development, data research/development and report creation.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Required Experience/Education:

  • Detailed knowledge of the technical vocabulary common to the appropriate discipline.
  • Working knowledge of industry issues, needs, and problems.
  • University Degree (Bachelor’s degree), preferably in an Environmental or Engineering discipline.
  • 1-3 years of industry experience in performing and analyzing Life Cycle Assessments – preferably across different products/industries.
  • Knowledge and expertise in performing Life Cycle Inventories, LCA modeling, and an understanding of environmental impacts and impact methodologies.
  • Experience in application of LCA principles to standards development is a plus.
  • Proficiency using LCA software (preferably GaBi 4) and practical knowledge of the various life cycle databases.
  • Must be able to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability and willingness to make sound, scientific decisions in challenging environments.

Request for Candidates: Life Cycle Analyst Position

Salem, Massachusetts

Quantis seeks to recruit a highly motivated and dynamic Life Cycle Analyst. The Analyst will be a member of the US Quantis team and will interact with the other team members based in Canada and Europe. The Analyst will be in charge of conducting and delivering Life Cycle Assessment projects for clients with the goal of improving their understanding of their environmental impact and helping them make key decisions and take action to improve environmental performance.

Job duties and accountabilities:

Reporting to the US Director of Quantis, the Analyst will be responsible for:

  • Conducting life cycle assessments
  • Assessing corporate environmental sustainability metrics
  • Consulting with clients to assist them in their understanding and implementation
  • Collecting critical data from clients as well as from other available sources
  • Preparing reports and presentations
  • Developing unique solutions
  • Supporting software customers

Critical Qualifications and Competences:

  • One to ten years experience in performing, managing, interpreting and/or communicating of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and/or related topics whether from an academic, industry or other background
  • Ability to structure own work and self-motivated
  • Sound problem solving skills
  • Scientific expertise
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with clients

Preferred qualifications

  • Previous experience in the consulting business
