SETAC North America is allowing late abstracts for the 31st Annual Meeting in Portland, OR.  http://portland.setac.org/

Abstracts submitted prior to the June 4th deadline will get first preference in selection of platforms but you now have until June 14th 2010 at 7AM CDT to submit your late abstract.

SETAC understands the hard work and long hours scientists are putting in to help clean-up and study this catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico. This addition is to allow workers on the oil spill effort in the Gulf of Mexico additional time to submit an abstract and continue to enhance the high quality of science we all expect at a SETAC annual meeting.

SETAC thanks you for your efforts and looks forward to seeing you at the meeting in Portland, OR.

Don’t miss submitting your abstract by June 4 (Friday this week!) for the SETAC North America 31st Annual Meeting from 7-11 November 2010 in Portland Oregon.

Due to popular demand and unfortunate scheduling relative to a long US holiday weekend, the deadline for LCA X abstracts has been extended from Tuesday 1 June to Friday 4 June.

The conference website is at: http://lcacenter.org/LCAX/

There are some really excellent special session proposals in process. Many of them are aimed at the policy theme of the conference, but others will address emerging issues such as quality validation, carbon footprinting and EPDs.

The rest of the conference will be determined by your abstracts. As always, your new ideas for research and implementation is what make this an exciting conference. Please submit abstracts through the account system: http://iere.org/account

A launching event of the USEtox TM model will be held at the SETAC Europe conference on Tuesday, May 25th in Seville, Spain.

This model has been developed by a team of international scientists for assessment of human and ecotoxic impacts from chemicals in life cycle impact assessment and for ranking of chemicals according to their inherent hazard characteristics. At the launch, a representative from the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) and a representative from the USEtox TM team will give a brief welcome and presentation of the USEtox TM model (15 min). The remaining time is allocated to informal talks with members of the USEtox TM Team and demonstration of the USEtox TM model, and for networking with LCA and chemical assessment colleagues. There will be posters and hand-out material about the model.

LCA-software companies that have integrated the USEtox TM characterization factors for human toxic and ecotoxic impacts into their software have been invited to demonstrate these facilities at the event.

If you wish to attend, please confirm your participation usetox@usetox.org

The British Standard Institute’s (BSI’s) Carbon Neutrality conference purpose is for attendees to understand how to become carbon neutral, run a carbon neutral event, or develop carbon neutral products or services. Hear all about the new specification published by British Standards on carbon neutrality and understand how to make immediate improvements in order to reduce your greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

This conference provides an opportunity to hear how organizations from a wide range of industry sectors are tackling carbon neutrality using PAS 2060 (Publicly Available Specification).
